This mid-size sedan was originally launched in 1973 and so far, we have seen five design and seven generations overall. This car is positioned between Jetta (Golf) and Phaeton in current VW line-up. Although current model for American market was released in 2011, company already plans to launch new model, which will be called 2016 VW Passat and which will come only year after European version, which is already under production.

2016 VW Passat design

The 2016 VW Passat will come with many improvements in order to regain its position in North America. This mid-size segment is considered as one of the most-competitive ones, so there is a big challenge for German engineers. New model will be based in VW’s new MQB platform and it will undergo many changes. The appearance of 2016 Passat will be more attractive but you shouldn’t expect some radical changes. It will definitely follow company’s new design language, so expect to see front fascia similar to other VW models. Rear end will also get new-designed taillights and new rounded bumper, while the side parts will be very similar to the current model. The 2016 VW Passat will be offered in two body styles – sedan and sport wagon. It will be around 190 lbs lighter compared to current model, because of use of new, light materials like aluminum and high-strength steel. The interior will be full of comfort and luxury. There will be also plenty of hi-tech features and one of the highlights will be new 12.3 inch touchscreen, probably largest in the class.
