Volkswagen has released the technical details of the concept of Twin up of diesel-electric hybrid drive . The company says that the car has the potential to become a production model . Volkswagen Twin Up until now displayed in many different forms , including a model with electric drive. Volkswagen went a step further on the concept of Twin up , combining diesel and electric motor. Because of the extra batteries and another drive powertrain , mass car increased to 1,205 kg .

The diesel engine of Volkswagen Twin Up is taken from the revolutionary Volkswagen XL1 . It is a two-cylinder 0.8 -liter TDI with 48 hp ( 35 kW ) and 119 Nm of torque. Diesel engine is mated to an electric motor increased by 47 hp ( up 20 hp more power than that of the XL1 ) and 139 Nm. The electric motor is powered by electricity from a battery of 8.6 kWh. The combined power of the hybrid system reaches 75 hp ( 55 kW) and maximum torque of 214 Nm. Drive is to the front wheels , and power transmission is used seven-speed automatic transmission with double clutch .
