VW New Midsize Coupe

German carmaker Volkswagen plans to continue the tradition of “coupe with four doors”, launching the VW New Midsize Coupe concept at this year’s motor show in Beijing. This model was announced two years ago and needed to be based on the model of the Jetta and take the position under the current Volkswagen CC. German giant announces that the main competition seen in the recently introduced Mercedes CLA-Class, which has overnight become the most praised.

Volkswagen chief designer Klaus Bischoff says that the goal of the New Midsize Coupe connect the space and practicality of the Jetta, but with much more elegant lines. Design of VW New Midsize Coupe brings a lot of innovation and design follows the well-known company strategy that has so far been seen on many models. Distinctive LED headlights this time did not lag behind, with slightly changed grill, while the biggest design changes seen in the last part of this model and of the course on the roof. Compared with Jetta on which it is based, the New Midsize Coupe Concept is 48 mm shorter, 58 mm wider and 58 mm lower. Dimensions of VW New Midsize Coupe amounts 4,597 mm length, 1,838 mm width and 1,422 mm height. For comparison, the main rival to the Mercedes CLA-Class is 4,630 mm long, 1,777 mm wide and 1,432 mm high. Volkswagen promises that despite the lower roof, New Midsize Coupe provides almost the same interior space as the Jetta.

Under the hood of VW New Midsize Coupe is the 2.0L turbo engine with 217 hp from the Golf GTI and power is transmitted to the front wheels via a seven-speed automatic gearbox. That should be enough to accelerate to 100 km / h in 6.5 seconds and a top speed of 240 km / h.

While Volkswagen has not yet confirmed this news, the New Midsize Coupe almost certainly enters into production, while production will take place in Mexico and China. The launch would be laid by the end of the year, most likely at the Paris Motor Show in September.
